The Patient Transporter is responsible for assisting on a daily basis with maintaining the appropriate level of department flow by greeting patients upon admission and transporting patients to appropriate destinations.

As post holder, you are responsible for the tasks such as but not limited to:

• Transports patients inside and outside of the facility to designated areas in a punctual and timely manner
• Lifts patients in and out of bed, chairs, taxis and ambulances to move them to and from treatment areas and procedure rooms
• To ensure that appropriate reaching, lifting and handling techniques are applied as per training when moving patients under emergency & non-emergency conditions, using appropriate equipment where necessary
• Offers comfort and support to patients and their families
• Transports medical equipment, supplies and laboratory specimens to designated treatment, diagnostic and patient care areas
• Moves deceased patients and their belongings to the designated area
• Respects and protects patient confidence and hospital confidentiality by keeping all sensitive and patient information private
• Follows all protocols and procedures to ensure safe delivery of patients, their possessions, supplies and laboratory specimens
• Pick up patients at scheduled locations and times, and drive them to appropriate destinations to receive medical care
• Transports patient via wheelchair to private transportation vehicle after discharge
• Provides input to manager on decision making and problem solving activities
• Assists with the collection of statistics used in the analysis of transport efficiency
• Assesses equipment needs; locates and retrieves equipment throughout the facility
• Carry out informal and formal risk assessments to assess hazards, then implement safe systems of work and reduce risks to yourself, patients and other persons involved
• To ensure that the uniform is worn in accordance with the organizations work wear policy and hygiene and infection control policy
• To work to the values of the organization and display high standards of integrity and professionalism towards the patients and colleagues
• To undertake any other duties relevant to the post as may be assigned from time to time which are consistent with the post

Academic Qualification: Preferably Bachelor’s degree or intermediate
Experience: 2 – 3 years of relevant experience
Skills:

• Ability to relate well with physicians, patients of all ages, and co-workers
• Sound interpersonal skills, flexible & reliable
• Maintain a calm and reasonable attitude at all times
