About the role

The position offers the opportunity of providing strategic leadership and oversight to the publishing team with the aim of developing and managing robust Publishing plan, achieving publishing targets and developing new businesses for the constantly changing environment in which Oxford University Press operates. The Publishing Director engages with key stakeholders to develop, drive, and implement the company's growth strategies and oversees the development and execution of the publishing plan to ensure delivery on time and on budget.

The Publishing Director is also involved in preparing and implementing strategic and financial plans and monitoring the progress of these plans to ensure the Press attains its mission and objectives as successfully as possible. The role involves exploring business opportunities, growing and maintaining profitable publishing for local markets, planning, designing and implementing print and electronic publishing programmes, and directing the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the Press complies with all legal, copyright, and other statutory regulations. The Publishing Director also develops strong rapport with authors, Ministries, and other stakeholders affecting the business, and embodies the organisation’s values and ethical principles.

The position will report to the Managing Director, OUPP

About you

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A strong school education and university degree (equivalent to Master's)
  • At least 12 to 14 years of relevant experience in the publishing sector / media / product management in a professionally managed organisation with at least five years’ experience in a senior leadership capacity.
  • An understanding of the National Curriculum of Pakistan and experience of executing school improvement and support programmes as well as experience in the education sector will be an added advantage .
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to plan and manage budgets, as well as translate a vision to achievable goals. Demonstrated skills at managing operations and developing procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of cultural sensibilities and needs, including digital publishing platforms and initiatives would be an added advantage.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with others across a wide range of functions.
  • Track record of recruiting, developing and managing a high performing team
  • Willingness to travel as per business need.
