Field Assistant (UNOPS)- EVN/06/2020


Job Description


Organizational Context:


The Field Assistant is normally supervised by the Field Officer (Protection) and performs a variety of functions related to the monitoring of field-based activities supported by UNHCR and implemented through partners. The supervisor provides technical support and guidance to the incumbent to ensure smooth implementation, monitoring and reporting of multi-sectoral activities for refugees.


The incumbent keeps frequent internal contacts with protection and field outreach staff members in the same duty station to exchange information and with the external contacts including government officials, national and international institutions, leaders of the refugee community, local population and/or Implementing Partners (IPs) on routine multi-sectoral activities.


  • Assist in administrative tasks as required including preparation of monitoring reports and meeting authorized personnel and assisting them during field missions.
  • Act as interpreter in the exchange of routine information, contribute to related liaison activities and respond directly to routine queries.
  • Collect data and other information regarding persons with specific needs and report them to the supervisor accordingly.
  • Keep regular contacts with refugee community-based structures/networks including outreach volunteers, women and youth committee and local authorities and implementing partners as requested by the supervisor.
  • In coordination with implementing partners, assist in the reception and provision of counseling support services to persons of concern to UNHCR.
  • Support the office in the identification and referral of extremely vulnerable persons of concern to specialized services providers including UNHCR partners.
  • In coordination with the Education, Livelihood and Health focal points, support establishment of and implementation of community-based activities aiming at socio-economic empowerment of refugees and other persons of concern.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education & Professional Work Experience


  • Completion of Secondary Education with post-secondary training/certificate in social work, psychology, Law, Political Science or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional field experience in a related job.

Certificates and/or Licenses

Business Administration, Law, Political Science or related field.

Language Requirements

Excellent knowledge of English and local language (Phasto). Any other UN working knowledge language is an added advantage.
