Language Expert –Urdu (Junior Associate)

Huqooq-e-Pakistan (Promotion of Human Rights in Pakistan) Project

Background:

EY has been contracted by the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan to implement the EU Promotion of Human Rights in Pakistan programme. The principal beneficiary of the programme is the Federal Ministry of Human Rights. The Ministry of Human Rights is also responsible for the management of the programme.

The programme implementation team are seeking a ‘Language Expert –Urdu’ to work with the Communications and Awareness Raising Team during the programme. The successful candidate will be involved in processes and tasks related to developing/translating a wide range of materials including but not limited to website content, press releases, articles, copy text for promotional materials, executive summaries and reports, and social media content.

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

• Develop awareness raising content in Urdu assigned by the Project Team.
• Translate content from English to Urdu

• Ensure effective communication content & timely submission.

• Acting as a team player and helping to facilitate a good team working atmosphere
• Communicating effectively with the programme team and external stakeholders

• Promoting learning and knowledge management/sharing is the responsibility of every staff member on the programme

Required Skills and Experience:

• 2 years of experience as an Urdu writer/ English to Urdu Translator or similar role
• BA in Urdu, English, Mass Communications, Journalism, Literature or relevant field
• Good knowledge of developing print/newspaper articles and digital media content in Urdu

• Proven experience in translation from English to Urdu
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines;
• Proficiency in written and oral Urdu & English languages
• Awareness & experience in Human rights related work will be an added asset
• Fluency in both English and Urdu is required. Any additional Pakistani regional language would be an asset.

• Knowledge and expertise in Urdu website development and translation preferred.

Number of Working Days: 90 days

Location: Islamabad

Period of Deployment: 01 October 2020 till 31 December 2021 (Part time)
