TITLE: Public Health Expert

DUTY STATION: Peshawar with frequent travel to Merged Areas

DURATION: 45 days

The United Nations Development Programme Merged Areas Governance Project is a project across the Merged Areas (MAs) to build the capacity of government institutions and assist the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) in the integration and mainstreaming of these districts. The project provides technical assistance to introduce and enhance inclusive and responsive governance structures, support the extension of rule of law institutions and services, implement evidence and information-based policy and planning, improve financial and economic management and build implementation capacities at all levels. The project is implemented using a Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) methodology to deliver needs-based and flexible support to the GoKP.

We are looking for a passionate Public Health Expert for the Merged Districts. The successful candidate will engage with the local communities on Covid-19 and WASH related issues, and in doing so the candidate will contribute to improving the lives of people living in some of the most underdeveloped areas in Pakistan. The candidates will collaborate with the district administration, community elders, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), religious leaders to endorse the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) practices and also a COVID-19 preventive measures campaign and play a role in its dissemination.

Requirements

• Degree in Public Health or other relevant degree or related field.
• Minimum 7 years’ technical experience implementing similar WASH programming in KP.
• A history of productive involvement with governmental health systems, processes.
• Demonstrated knowledge and background in community mobilization and engagement.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills, collaboration experience, creativity and willingness to innovate.
• Excellent written and spoken English, Urdu language skills, understanding of Pashto is highly desirable.
• Must possess strong technical and analytical background and have effective communications and writing skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Familiarity of KP especially Merged Areas.

Deliverables and Payment terms

1-Develop a methodology on assessing WASH practices and COVID-19 preventative measures for FGDs to be conducted in the field (Payment Percentage:10%, LOE Days:5 )

2-Conduct FGDs, data collection and analysis (detailed FGD report) on the current state of WASH practices, adoption of COVID-19 prevention measures. Conduct desk research on previous work on WASH in the Merged Areas(Payment Percentage:25%, LOE Days:20)

3-Develop medically accurate messages on WASH practices and COVID-19 preventive measures that can be realistically implemented in the MAs highlighting the best means of communicating to the target audiences in the MAs (Payment Percentage:30%, LOE Days:15)

4-Finalization and submission of the final report (Payment Percentage:20%, LOE Days:5)
